Portland Village School

Masterplan, site search & studies, remodel & additions - Portland OR

The Site Committee at Portland Village School is pleased to recommend Laurie Simpson, based on our experience working closely with her over several years. She is consistently well-prepared, delivers results in a timely fashion, designs value into our projects to help us meet tight budget constraints, and helps us maintain an aesthetic which expresses the character of our school.

The site committee of our public charter school interviewed five architectural firms in order to begin a site needs analysis and long-term planning process.  Laurie Simpson, principal with MOSI Architecture gave us a superior presentation, and inspired our confidence with examples from her portfolio and her demonstration of directly relevant knowledge.  It did not take much deliberation to choose her to work with us.

We have been rewarded many times over for making this decision.  Laurie has taken the time to understand the values of our school community, and even some of the principles underlying the Waldorf pedagogy we use.  We rely on her professionalism to negotiate complex bureaucratic requirements with city zoning reviews, and development and permitting reviews.  She understands the limited funds for a public charter school and creatively engineer lowest-cost solutions which do not compromise the quality of the finished project.  She has gone beyond her expected duties and helped steer us to prospective new sites and apply for particular grants or other funding sources.  She has always been available to meet when necessary, often on short notice, and has mutually respectful relationships with the builders and contractors involved in our projects.

We have the highest confidence in her abilities and her architectural team and have no hesitation in recommending her services to others.”
